Internal power supplies[edit | edit source]

A/A+ chassis (SCPH-10000 and SCPH-15000 series, GH-003 based SCPH-18000 series)[edit | edit source]

The earliest retail PS2 power supplies, used in early Japanese consoles. These power supllies are region-exclusive.

Warning: Despite having the same mechanical form factor as later 12 V power supplies used in the AB chassis (GH-008), GH-001 and GH-003 take 8.5 V instead! Installing a 12 V power supply in these consoles will damage them!

Specifications

Output voltage 8.5 V Never install a 12 V power supply in these consoles!
Max output amperage ?
Input voltage 100 V (Japan)
Input frequency 50 / 60 Hz

AB chassis (GH-008 based SCPH-18000 series)[edit | edit source]

Uses an identical form factor to the power supplies used in A and A+ chassis (GH-001 and GH-003), however, this power supply outputs 12 V instead. Due to the identical form factor, it is mechanically possible to install an AB chassis power supply in an A/A+ chassis console; however, this would damage the console by overvolting it!

Picture of a leaky capacitor on an ADP-75JP C (220 V - 240 V), next to the heatsink. Notice the area on the PCB where dust adheres to, as well as green residue and corrosion on surrounding components' legs. The damage on the picture prevented the power supply from powering up; it instantly went into safety shutdown and then restarted, causing an audible periodic clicking sound. Replacing the capacitor and cleaning off the electrolyte residue on the PCB and surrounding components fixed this power supply. This is a known issue with all "fat" PS2 Delta PSUs.

External power supplies[edit | edit source]

K/L/M chassis (slim SCPH-700xx to SCPH-770xx series)[edit | edit source]

All of these power supplies have the Sony model number SCPH-70100.

In early 2005, it was found that some slim PS2 power supplies manufactured from August to December 2004 were defective and contained a component that could overheat. Affected was the Hipro model (HP-AT048H03, except HP-AT048H03B) with a datecode from 2004.08 up to including 2004.12. The units were recalled by Sony and replaced by a 2005/2006/2007 model.
