1.50 Kernel addon

The 1.50 Kernel addon is a patch which could be installed for 3.71 M33 and up. It does allow Phat PSPs to run both 1.50 and 3.xx Kernel for homebrew compatibility.

Ever since the release of 3.71 M33, it has been decided that the main installer should not install the 1.50 kernel addon, like how it was in the OE firmwares and the early M33 firmwares. The addon, which is optional for Phat users, allows users to install the 1.50 kernel for homebrew at the expense of the Location Free Player and the Korean Font. However, the Location Free Player can be flashed back after the install. The addon will add the 'km' and 'podule' folders to flash0, where all of the 1.50 files will get flashed. Also, the installer has no checks so if there isn't any more space in flash0, the installer will end in an error. You will have an incomplete, or missing 1.50 subset.

On June 24, 2008, Alek made a blog posting saying that Team M33 has abandoned further development of the 1.50 kernel addon in future custom firmwares. He has advised that developers should update their homebrew to use the 3.xx and the new 4.xx kernels.

Slim PSPs are not able to use the 1.50 Kernel Addon patch. However, kxploit-formatted 1.50 homebrew can be launched while in TimeMachine's 1.50 + 3.40 Mix. Also, some 1.50 homebrew can also be launched with Noobz eLoader.

Installation[edit | edit source]

Note: The 1.50 kernel addon should be installed right after an upgrade to a newer custom firmware. This is to save on space needed for the install, and to prevent any errors that may occur in the future. In addition, it is advised that you delete the 'dic' folder from flash0 if you don't use an Asian Phat PSP. (This is to save about 2.5 MB of space)

Note: This is only for Phat PSP's. (PSP-100x's only.) Do not try it on the slim.
